Students of RANEPA Institute of Public Administration and Civil Service have completed an internship in the United Arab Emirates. Observers of pilot educational program honed their theoretical knowledge in practice and gained invaluable work experience in the UAE. A large-scale international educational project has been implemented with the administrative support of Maksim Zagornov, Business Ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE.
A two–week abroad internship within the framework of the pilot supplementary education module named Russia - UAE: Fundamentals of professional activity in Arab countries took place from January 18 to 26.
It was attended by 18 students of IPACS RANEPA – 2nd - 4th year students of the faculties of Public and Municipal Administration, the Faculty of Economics, the Higher School of Law, International Regional Studies and Regional Management.
The internship took place in branches of Russian companies located in the UAE (in Dubai and Abu Dhabi), as well as in a number of government and business organizations: the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in the UAE, the Russian Pavilion at Expo City Dubai (WEB.RF). In addition, several RANEPA students were accepted for internships by Emirati organizations: the largest legal and trading companies in Abu Dhabi, as well as the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) free economic Zone.
In Russian and Emirati organizations, RANEPA students were entrusted with developing strategies, finding partners, drafting contracts, interacting with the media and much more. All employers noted the high level of training of students, their initiative and independence.
Thus, the management of the FORWARD EXP DMCC logistics company attracted students to practical interaction with partners. The group visited the Mabani steel metallurgical plant, where they took part in negotiations.
In addition an excursion to Jebel Ali Port supported by DP World was organized for students to study the specifics of the work of logistics companies in the port.
At Volts Battery, a company located in Masdar City and producing modern electricity storage systems for country houses students were involved in communication processes with IRENA, as well as in research work.
Students undergoing an internship in the Russian Pavilion at Expo City Dubai, a unique facility preserved following the results of EXPO 2020, took part in organizing a business mission, preparing business events in the pavilion, negotiations with Russian and Emirati companies, as well as in international events held by Expo City Dubai.
During the internship at RAKEZ, students not only got acquainted with the specifics of one of the oldest and largest free economic zones in the UAE, but also, under the guidance of experienced mentors, took part in the procedures for creating companies and doing business, as well as in negotiation processes with clients and foreign partners.
"It was a wonderful experience communicating with the students of the Presidential Academy. We would like to emphasize that the students showed dedication, enthusiasm and genuine interest. They were very responsive, disciplined and well trained, had excellent research and reporting skills," said Assel Rakisheva, Strategic Regional Manager for Russia and the CIS of the RAKEZ Free Economic Zone.
It was possible to reach an agreement with Russian and Emirati companies and organizations on the admission of RANEPA students with the assistance of Maksim Zagornov, Business Ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE.
"We highly appreciate the results of the RANEPA students' internship in the UAE and consider this a serious step for the development of bilateral relations between our countries. Today, in a rapidly changing world, it is important for students and young professionals to have access not only to high-quality theoretical knowledge, but also to practical work. In my opinion, the internship program turned out to be rich and varied.
The students got to see firsthand work structure in Russian and Emirati companies and government agencies and got a unique opportunity to communicate with business owners. I would like to congratulate the students on the successful completion of the internship. And I would like to thank all the companies and organizations that accepted the students for supporting this initiative," said Maksim Zagornov, Business Ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE.
The remarkable thing is that this is the first internship for students of the Presidential Academy in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to that, foreign internships were conducted in European countries.
"We thank Maksim Zagornov, the business ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE, and his team, all our colleagues who responded to this initiative and created an opportunity for our students to successfully complete internships in Russian and Emirati companies. Of course, such a partnership format is important for us, and for students - a new experience of practical training on international platforms," said Ruslan Korchagin, Acting Director of IPACS RANEPA.
Upon internship completion, students of the Presidential Academy will receive certificates from Business Russia. As noted by the leadership of the IPACS RANEPA, taking into account the successful result, an internship in the United Arab Emirates may become an annual one.
